Being involved in an automobile accident can be a very traumatic experience. If you are involved in an automobile accident either as a driver, passenger or pedestrian, here are a few recommendations on what to do:

1. Call the Police to Create a Police Report: Call 911 and report that you have been involved in an automobile accident. Once a police officer arrives, make sure to explain to the officer how the accident happened. If you are aware of witnesses who saw the crash, ask the police officer to speak with them.  Make sure you obtain the Driver’s Exchange of Information or crash report number in order to obtain the police report once it is ready.  It is also important to obtain the other party’s insurance information at the scene to ensure a claim can be opened immediately.
   
   
2. Seek Immediate Medical Attention: If you are experiencing any pain or discomfort seek immediate medical attention. If you feel pain at the scene of the accident, ask for fire rescue to examine you.  In a car accident, Personal Injury Protection (PIP) from your auto carrier will pay the majority of your medical bills up to $10,000.00.
   
   
3. Preserve as Much Evidence as Possible: Take pictures of the cars involved, pictures of the scene of the accident, pictures of the intersection and skid marks, write down witness contact information, and any other information that you feel will be important in this matter.
